How to charge your phone

To get your Motorola Moto X set up and fully charged:

  • Unravel USB cable.
  • Take large end of the USB cable and insert into USB plug adapter (not included).
  • Take small end of the USB cable and insert into charging port on the bottom of the device.
  • Insert plug connector and plug into wall.
  • Switch on.

Alternatively you can charge your device using your laptop. To do this:

  • Take large end of the USB cable and slot it into USB port on laptop.
  • Take small end and insert into charging port on the bottom of the device.

How to set up your phone

To set up your Motorola Moto X straight from the box:

  • Press the Power button to switch on the device.
  • Select your chosen Language and tap Start.
  • Select a Wi-Fi network by tapping the network name or tap Skip to skip this section.
  • If you wish to continue without an internet connection tap Skip Anyway, otherwise tap Don’t Skip.
  • If you accept the Motorola Data Privacy Settings tap Accept And Continue.
  • If you have a Google Account tap Yes and fill in the relevant details, otherwise tap No.
  • If you do not have a Google Account and wish to set one up tap Get An Account, otherwise tap Not Now.

· If you would like to move data over from your old handset to your Moto X using Migrate, tap Start Migrate, otherwise tap Maybe Later.

What’s the latest software available for my phone?

The Motorola Moto X runs Android KitKat version 4.4.2.

How to update your phone’s software

  • Ensure that the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Press the power button and swipe the padlock symbol up the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap About Phone.
  • Tap System Updates.
  • If an update is available, read the terms and conditions and tick the box to accept if you agree.
  • Tap Confirm and the device will automatically update your software.

How to perform a factory reset

  • Press the power button and swipe the padlock symbol up the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Backup And Reset.
  • Tap Factory Data Reset.
  • Tap Reset Phone.
  • Tap Erase Everything.

How to download an app

  • Press the power button and swipe the padlock symbol up the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap the Play Store icon.
  • Search for a specific app by tapping the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Tap on the app you want to install.
  • Tap Install.
  • Confirm by tapping Accept .

How to delete an app

  • Press the power button and swipe the padlock symbol up the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Tap Apps.
  • Select the app you wish to uninstall.
  • Tap uninstall.
  • Tap OK to confirm.

Connectivity and Internet

How to set up Wi-Fi

  • Press the power button and swipe the padlock symbol up the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Move the Wi-Fi slider to the on position.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Select the network you wish to connect to.
  • Enter any required passwords and tap OK.

How to set up a Wi-Fi Hotspot

  • Press the power button and swipe the padlock symbol up the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Tap More.
  • Tap Tethering And Mobile Hotspot.
  • Tick the box next to Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot turn on.
  • Tap Set Up Wi-Fi Hotspot.
  • Change your device name, security settings and password if you so wish.
  • Tap Save to return to previous menu.

Camera and Multimedia

How to take a picture or video on your phone

  • Press the power button and swipe the padlock symbol up the screen to unlock.
  • Tap the Camera icon on the Home menu at the bottom of the screen.
  • Compose your shot.
  • Tap the screen to capture your image or tap the film camera icon to capture video.
  • To stop recording, tap the Stop button.
