How to charge your phone

To get your Sony Xperia Z1 Compact set up and fully charged:

  • Unravel USB cable.
  • Take the plug adaptor and pull the top pin up until you feel a click.
  • Take large end of the USB cable and insert into plug connector.

· Locate and lift the flappy panel on left side of the handset near the top, housing the charging port. Insert the small end of the USB cable into the port.

  • Insert small end of the USB cable into the plug connector and plug into wall.
  • Switch on.

Alternatively you can charge your device using your laptop. To do this:

  • Take large end of the USB cable and slot it into USB port on laptop.
  • Take small end and insert into charging port as described above.

How to set up your phone

To set up your phone straight from the box:

  • Press the Power button to switch on the device.
  • Select your chosen Language and tap Done.
  • Tick the box to state that you are aware of the important information and then tap the right hand arrow.

· Select whether you would like to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and a mobile network, then tap the right hand arrow.

· >Select whether you would like to download settings for internet and multimedia now or later, then tap the right hand arrow.

  • Set the time and date, then tap the right hand arrow.
  • If you would like to join a Wi-Fi network now, tap Search for Networks or to skip tap the right hand arrow.
  • To set up an account for the Sony Entertainment Network tap Get Started, otherwise tap the right hand arrow.
  • If you would like to set up any social media accounts tap the relevant icon, then tap the right hand arrow.

· If you would like to switch off location services untick the boxes, or leave them ticked if you wish to leave location services on, then tap the right hand arrow.

  • Tap Finish to complete setup.

Software

What’s the latest software available for my phone?

The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact runs Android Jelly Bean and this is currently the most recent version available.

How to update your phone’s software

  • Ensure that the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Press the power button and swipe up the display to unlock the handset.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap About Phone.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Update to check for updates.
  • If one is available, read the terms and conditions and tick the box to accept if you agree.

How to perform a factory reset

  • Press the power button and swipe up the display to unlock the handset.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Backup & Reset.
  • Tap Factory Data Reset.
  • Tap Reset Phone.
  • Tap Erase Everything.

How to download an app

  • Press the power button and swipe up the display to unlock the handset.
  • Tap the Play Store icon at the bottom of the display.
  • If you don’t already have a Google Account, you can set one up now. You will need an internet connection for this.
  • Search for a specific app by tapping the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Tap on the app you want to install.
  • Tap Install.
  • Confirm by tapping Accept and Download.

How to delete an app

  • Press the power button and swipe up the display to unlock the handset.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Apps.
  • Select the app you wish to delete.
  • Tap uninstall.
  • Tap OK to confirm.

How to set up Wi-Fi

  • Press the power button and swipe up the display to unlock the handset.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Move the Wi-Fi slider to the on position.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Select the network you wish to connect to.
  • Enter any required passwords and tap Connect.

How to set up a Wi-Fi Hotspot

  • Press the power button and swipe up the display to unlock the handset.
  • Tap the Apps icon on the homescreen to go to the Apps menu.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap More.
  • Tap on Tethering & Portable Hotspot.
  • Tick Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot.
  • Tap OK to confirm.

How to take a picture or video on your phone

  • Press the Power button.
  • Press the shutter button on the side of the handset.
  • Compose your shot.

· Press the same shutter button located on the side of the handset to capture your image or tap the red record symbol to capture video.
